I have just been presented with one of the hardest tasks in the world…talking about myself. It is one of my biggest pet peeves, because I never know what to say! Hi, my name is Kennedye and I’m a Secondary English Education student and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In my free time, if and or when I have any, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, and watching all my favorite streaming services. As I have continued to get older, I have found a renewed appreciation and passion for reading and writing. Growing up, and still to this day, my mom has always been an avid reader, and she wanted to pass her love for literature onto me; for some reason though at a young age, it did not stick!
Whenever someone find out that I want to go into the field of English Education, they always assume that I have a must have passion for writing and reading papers, which in some essence is true, depending on the paper I’m writing or I’m critiquing, it can be a very enjoyable process. What really made me want to go into English Education was thinking back on the fabulous people that I had the opportunity to call my teachers. Those people who made going to school enjoyable for me, especially considering that it wasn’t my favorite place to be. I also always dreamed of being the educator that I didn’t have the opportunity of having; educators whom looked like me and could relate to similar experiences that I have had in life.
Writing has continued to be the greatest form of expression that I have ever had the opportunity of experiencing. Growing up, it was the only way I felt I could express myself, and that is also my favorite thing about being able to read another people’s writing. I am beyond excited to dive into all of your works and see what journey each of you take me on.
Below is a collage I have made myself…don’t judge my artistic abilities. This includes things like my favorite books as a kid, books I’m currently reading, and snip bits from some of my favorite spoken word poetry. I hope you enjoy a little insight "Into My literary Mind”.
P.S. click on the word "stick" to see ways of helping kids like me LOL!
Hi Kennedye, thanks for sharing about yourself! I understand how you feel, I hate talking about myself in these blogs too. It is awesome you want to be a teacher like the ones you had that made school more enjoyable for you. I remember hating school, and reading, back in grade school—but there were definitely a few teachers that really made the experience better. Sounds like you're going to be a great teacher that will truly care about and connect with your students! I'm honored to be in Currins 547 with you, and look forward to getting to know you more throughout the semester. -Paul Winkler
ReplyDeleteI loved the list of ways to encourage reading. Thanks for the hint to find the word "Stick". Perhaps you could give the links another color to make them visually "pop" for the readers.
